Would anyone like to offer insight on backyard flocks in Prescott Valley, AZ? My family and I have been stoked about the idea of chickens for a couple of years now, have our breeds picked out: Buff Orpington, Ameraucana, Black Copper Maran and Rhode Island Red. We were planning on starting a small flock in the spring but just waded through the online legalese for Prescott Valley and zoning restrictions. As far as I can see, 2 chicken limit IF you have an acre. We are on half an acre, adjacent to two vacant and unbuildable lots on two sides. Acres of BLM land across the road; so we are really nearly rural. Thought I might ask around at the feed stores and see what they can tell me because I have certainly seen other residences with chickens - maybe nobody really cares and we can still get away with it. Open to any advice for newbies. Sure love your site and sense of community. Thanks, y'all.

Hi! I'm in PV too and I just give a big middle finger to the city. I would like to change the ordinance because it's insane. So if you have an acre, you can have 2 chickens OR 2 horses. Ya, chickens and horses are bundled into the same category! There's a massive difference between horses and chickens. Did you get some or no? I got quiet breeds and checked with my neighbors first. My neighbors are fine with it as long as they get some eggs which is a fine trade for me.
