Hi I am from Oklahoma have had laying hens off and on my whole life. I recently bought some cinnamon queen hens from a friend and was given two Cochin roosters later. One is a buff Cochin rooster and the other a silver laced Cochin rooster if I remember the name correct. I am curious if these two breeds cinnamon queens and Cochin have ever been crossed in breeding? I am going to give it a try but wondering what to expect. I plan to get Cochin hens in the future, these cinnamon queens are rather aggressive towards the rooster.

If they are still fairly young that aggressiveness could be from overall immaturity. It often takes them most of a year to grow into mature consenting adults. If they are this year’s chicks just be patient. If the hens are mature and the roosters are immature it is even worse but they will grow out of it.

Cinnamon Queens are red sex links. They are hybrids so they are mixed. There are different ways to make them so you can’t be sure genetically what is in their background other than some really general guesses that are probably right. It’s a marketing name more than a good description of their background. Do you know which hatchery they came from? We might or might not be able to get some ideas from that.

Your hens are some shade of red or brown. There is a fairly good probability that they have some other colored feathers on them and maybe some patterns. It just depends on their parents.

With the Buff rooster you will probably get chickens that are a shade of red in between buff and their red. I’ve had some crosses between buff and red that I’d call orange. They will probably have some markings on them too, though that is not for certain, maybe black in the tail, neck, or wing areas. Since the hens are mixed genetically there is a real good chance not all the chicks will be identical. Buff is a strange one when used in a cross. A lot of times you can get some real surprises, but that’s more when black chickens are in the mix. With your reds there should not be many real big surprises.

I’m not that familiar with a Silver Laced. Silver is dominant over gold so the offspring should be mostly white or an off-white. When the hackle and saddle feathers come in on the cockerels you’ll probably see something close to yellow there, I call it rusty white. You should see lacing too. It’s highly possible you will see some patterns in the tail, neck, or wings. Since the hens are mixed you can see different patterns on different chicks. You should easily see the difference in the Buff and Silver Laced rooster’s chicks with those hens.
