Hi, HELP IM LOST!!!!!

Hi I'm in Northern CA where the redwood giants grow. I'm not really new to backyard chickens I just never needed any help before as I could always find the answer and Great solutions to my problem or question. I've had 2 hens since hatched. Well one got hurt and I didn't know and well, I was mending her, she died. Now I have one lonely baby. She hasn't laid since the hen passed and she is losing feathers. Someone suggested a mirror which she has. Her appetite is so so. I have ordered hatched chicks 3 of them buff orington one black and one orange and a muinca. Can't spell it with feathers are feet plus, I guess a bird of Free so 4 bird's are coming 8/31 can only keep 3 or 2 really. But will my hen like her new chicks? I'm at a lost as, I'm not playing with her either very lonely. Since my hen passed I cry my eyes out when I go to the garden, I haven't even given my plants water and I have a beautiful garden or did. Does anyone know if chickens get lonely and I think she would lay a egg if I stay near her. I'm really lost, and am I doing right by the chicks? Please any words would be a welcome to my Laydee. I'm checking for egg bound doesn't have signs but I'm going to check...
 
Hens do get lonely they are very social birds. She probably stopped laying because of the other hen dying. I'm not really sure if the chicks will help since they won't be the same age as your other hen. You can't put the chicks with the hen till the chicks are much older so she will be very lonely for a while. I would try to get a hen about the same age as your hen so she won't be so lonely. There are many people who need to re-home hens so I'm sure you can get another one. I hopped this helped!
 
It would be good if you read up on "integration methods," put in search box. Even though your hen is lonely - a new bird will be a complete stranger to her. One or both of they may fight. The "look but, don't touch" method takes longer but, it lessens the dramatics of pecking order.
 
I'm so very grateful I asked about the chicks and the experts wonderful advice don't do it! At first I thought it would keep her entertain, like a puppy playing with a middle age dog...then I started thinking she will not like this at all as she is bossy Laydee for sure. I can stop the order as it is not due to ship until 8/31. The fair is in town and the poultry is shown and judged, so maybe I can pick up a pretty Laydee after the ribbons? Maybe I'll get lucky and find two hens so I'm not in this position again...I sure hope never again. As far as laying should I hang out with her for hour or so well she sits? She goes in the nest and sits when I'm in the house. So maybe I'll keep watch for her, what do you think? I got her some superworms she loves live about two inches long. That might get her insides working again too, and she just loves the treat. Thank You so very much for helping me I was at a lost how to look it up even. I have been worried about the chicks as my husband didn't know yet, most likely get mad about chicks coming! I'm so very grateful to you both. So off to the fair I go, I hope I locate the perfect mate for both hens sake!

So sorry about the loss. I lost one of my 2 year old hens this year and understand how devastating it is.

They prefer being in a flock, minimum of 3 is what most recommend. IMO keep her company as much as you can until you can locate and integrate some buddies.
