My name is Karen. I got started with chickens when the ex-husband gave our 15 year old daughter 4 chicks for Easter. 1 sex-linked black Australorp,1 Plymouth rock,1 NHR, and 1( I forget what it is suppose to be!).
Unfortunately, 3 of them turned out to be roosters!
They all hatched March 25/26, 2013. We bought 4 more (2 RIR & 2 production reds) about 6 to 8 weeks later. It looks like 1 of those will be a rooster also.
So far,no eggs! Out of the original 4, 1 rooster is mean/aggressive towards people; the New Hampshire Red is mean to the other Chickens (he is headed for the stew pot). The 3rd rooster and the black Australorp are pretty mellow. The Australorp & the aggressive rooster both like to leave the fenced yard to eat bugs near the house. All 8 birds live in a 10' x 10' chicken barn and have free run of a fenced yard that is 50' x 50'.
We've checked the barn, the fenced yarn & the unfenced yard for eggs, but have not found any.

Chickens don't start laying eggs until they are 6-8 months of age. You can expect them soon if you have any pullets for sure. Your setup sounds great...
