Hi there. I am new and wanted to say hi. I may also have need to rehome either a Drake or a hen.

I grew up with ducks but we always had fly away mallards because we live just off a private lake. It was the perfect relationship. Got all the cute babies and then when they were ready they would go down to the lake and visit when they missed us.

Well, I thought just having some ducks year round would be fun. I read a lot and tried to learn how to do it well. I wanted two hens and a drake. I purchased my Rouen with a “we are pretty sure these are hens” well they aren’t. I have two drakes and one hen. They were doing great. I was reading the horror stories and watching but they were great. Even after they started getting into mating things were ok. But yesterday my poor girls neck was shred up and her back is clearly sore. I feel terrible and I am keeping them separated the best I can.

However, as much as it pains me to loose a baby, I think I need to rehome someone.

I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and learning as much as I can.

welcome to BYC. The best thing to do is rehome the hen. because if you rehome a drake, you will still have a terrible ratio of only one hen for your one Drake and therefore you will need three more hens. If you decide to keep all your ducks, you would have to get at least five more hens so you have three girls for each drake which is the bare minimum

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

I have never kept Ducks so I can't offer much help. I am so sorry one of your birds got hurt :hugs definitely protect your flock from aggression. Best wishes with the rehoming, I think its the best route!
