Hi, I just learned about this group when I read our local ordinances on keeping backyard chickens.

I don't have any chickens yet, I wanted to come here and see what all it entails. I own my own home, have a small back yard and thought it might be nice to have a couple chickens for eggs for myself and pets (?)...and that may show my ignorance on the subject.

Not at all ignorant. Quite a good move IME. I originally got chickens for fresh healthy eggs from happy humanely treated chickens. It very rapidly developed into an addiction. I just love my flock!
