I'm a newbie with incubators and ran into an issue. I started looking for guidance and came across BYC. Members seem very helpful and knowledgeable. Here's my issue - One chick pipped and seemed to get very quiet. My son panicked and helped him out to soon. He still hadn't absorbed the yolk. I read to leave him in the incubator but I'm uncertain. It's been a day and I am worried and don't know what to do. Also there are approximately 8 more eggs which were due yesterday, April 14th, how long can I wait before losing hope on the other eggs? Can someone please help??? Thanks

On a good note - I have 5 very spunky chicks alive and well!

Hi, welcome to BYC!
I'm new to incubating. I have an Octagon Eco 20.
Chicks take 21 days approx. to hatch. Some may take up to 24, i believe. Make sure your humidity is up to 65%ish. If it's too dry the chicks may get shrink-wrapped causing them to die. Sad, I know. They can stay in the incubator for up to 24 hours after hatching due to the fact that they absorb the nutrients from the yolk.
Congrats on the 5 so far! If you have any more questions, I'll answer the best I can!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on the successful hatch! X3 on the chick in a cup trick, and keep the chick quiet as much as you can until he has absorbed the yolk. (keeping the area dark helps) In case you haven't seen it, there is a great hatching article in the Learning Center https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 Day 24-25 is about it with chicken eggs, and the really late hatchers often seem to have some sort of problem.
