Hi there! My name is Debbie and I am new to raising chicks. I grew up with a family that always had chickens for eggs and for eating.
I am an 'empty nester' now so my husband and I decided to get a few chicks and raise them mainly for eggs and as backyard pets! It's been a long, long time and I obviously have forgotten a lot! I live in Nor Cal just north of Sacramento where it get's pretty hot in the summer but pretty mild in the winter. I'm looking forward to being here on this site and tapping into everyone's knowledge!

We are so happy to have you! I waved my welcome sign already, so I won't do it again.

I'm in Vermont, having moved back here after 40 years. I got chickens as a retirement project - I retired last week! My 10-week-old gals are snoozing in their new coop and happy as could be in their new run. They were too long in the brooder, and I have the dust to prove it!

Welcome!

Hi Debbie, welcome to BYC! Sounds like you have a great solution for the empty nest. Have you picked your breeds yet?
Thank you! Yes, I have four Easter Egger's. Ameraucana's is what they are called though I have read quite a bit on that so now I am not really sure!

Yes, I am retired too and my husband works from home. Yes, I have dust too!
Hello, Debbie, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Thank you! I have been doing so much reading here on this forum. That's about all I accomplished today!

Yep - unless you're getting them from a specific breeder, they're most likely "just" Easter Eggers. One of mine is an EE, and she's a beautiful bird who is our dominant chicken. I love her cheek muffs.
