I'm fairly new at raising chickens but like to read a lot and research to find answers to my questions. Last January I finished a four month long project of converting our shed into a chicken house. In June we moved away and I'm doing it all over again!! :-) I have had anywhere from 4-10 chickens and had three roosters at one time but just have one now. I am looking forward to learning from you all!!

Thanks I have a question about one of my chickens! Is this where I ask questions or do I do it somewhere else? I'd like to know what breed it is. My friend gave it to me when it was a pullet and said it was a Cochin but it doesn't have very many feathers on its feet or legs and its about a year old now. I tried posting a picture but I got an error message. I'll try again...

She is the honey colored one in the front.to me, she looks like an Easter egger and Cochin mix maybe. I just breed her with a Cochin rooster and so I'd like to know what the chicks are! Oh, and she lays eggs that are neither white, tan, or pink. They are kind of a mixture of all three. Very light colored but not like the white eggs at the store...

to me she looked like this chicken that came up when I did a search for aracaunas...but that probably doesn't mean anything!!

I'd say your guess is right on EE/Cochin mix... since a lot of EE's only carry 1 blue egg gene, then she was part of the half that didn't get it... explains laying tinted eggs too... the chicks would just be called a Barnyard/Backyard Mix... she's gorgeous, btw...

Hi Elle,

Your pretty hen looks like an EE to me, she's a pretty girl. Hope you're enjoying her and the rest of your flock.

Thanks for joining us, it's nice to have you here!
