I am so happy to have found this site. I don't have any chickens yet, but I am going to get 4 girl chicks in the next couple of weeks. I have always wanted chickens ever since I used to gather eggs for my grandmother. I have been reading a lot about chickens and have so much more to learn. I'm sure I will have a lot of questions. My son helped me build the coop and now we only have to finish the run. I will post pictures when we finish. I also have a friend who has chickens and she has given me a lot of good advice. I guess the first question I have is pertaining to chick feed. What is the best feed for baby chicks. I have seen many brands and kinds and the more I look, the more confusing it gets. Unmedicated vs medicated? Do they need antibiotics at the beginning? My friend gives her chicks antibiotics the first few days after receiving her chicks and doesn't use the medicated feed. I want my chicks to have a good and healthy beginning. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Again, I am so excited about getting my chicks and finding a place where I can share and ask questions!

! Happy you joined our community! New chicks are very exciting!! In terms of feed, look for Chick Starter wherever you buy your chicken feed. I'm sure it comes by other names and brands but I assume it's pretty much all the same thing. The medicated vs. unmedicated thing is a little tougher to answer as there are many different opinions. You might type in medicated vs. unmedicated into the BYC search bar and read what others think. You might post in the link below to learn even more.
