Hi Everybody

This winter I started researching chickens, coops and reading all the books at the local libraries about chickens. I also found this wonderful website and began planning our chicken adventure. We purchased 8 Barred Rock female chicks and 7 Isa Brown female chicks in March.

My husband began building a chicken tractor to put them in until he could build a permanent chicken coop. The girls went out to the chicken tractor at 6 weeks and love it. We move it each morning. They are 8 week old now. By-the-way, one of the girls turned out to be a boy.

My husband is building a secure coop and run with electricity and running water. We pour the cement floor in two days. We have a lot of preditors so no free ranging around here.

We also grow a very large garden in the summer. Our two boys (in their 20's) are both handicapped and live with us. One of them has been a big help with daily chicken care and with helping his dad build the coop.

Looking forward to a long relationship with BackYardChickens.

Thanks all

Hillbilly Hen-thanks, we are located between White Cloud and Hesperia-so neighbors. I'll have to check out the Michigan chat thread and Chickenstock.

Welcome from another Michigan chicken mom. I'm from Grand Rapids and my chicks are almost 7 weeks old. This is a great place to learn about chickens. Everyone is very nice and helpful.

Enjoy!
