Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Did you find that immediately after the hen laid it? Other birds may have eaten the contents previously. If you found it right after it was laid, it appears it may have been thin shelled and it came out in pieces. Older hens can have troubles as do very young layers. Lack of calcium or the inability to use calcium properly in the shell gland can cause laying issues.

Definitely start a thread in the Egglaying forums for more help... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/chicken-behaviors-and-egglaying.18/

Good luck with your flock and welcome to ours!
I saw it as it happen. One of the other chicken was trying to eat it. I put calcium powder in their feed but will try the oyster shell. Thank you for your repsonse.
