Hi I'm new

Depends on the chicken, but most will only maintain high production for a year or two. But there are people on here who report birds that are eight or ten and are sill laying.

How often you clean the run and coop is entirely dependent on its size, layout, how many birds you have, your weather, etc. I clean my coop out every two weeks, but I could probably go three or four without it being an issue. It never smells or anything. And in the six months they've been using the coop and run, I've never cleaned the run. I just dump a big bag of leaves in once a month or so. It's dry and has no bad odor, so it's fine.

I do deep litter in my coop. I have 60 winter hens and roosters (Means I'm not butchering). It's kinda like just replenishing the bedding when it gets worn out. I use it to immune my chicks to Mareks Disease. If your interested in it I can give you an article from Harvey Ussery's Small Scale Poultry Flock handbook.

Sounds like you must have the cleanest coop and run in town. There is nothing wrong with cleaning that often - I'm sure it prevents a lot of problems like infestations of mites, lice etc. that hide in cracks and crannies and attack poultry at night. If I were a chicken, I know I would feel better in freshly cleaned housing.

I'm sure your neighbors approve also.

It's ok to clean. Especially in the summer time. That poo can generate heat..so, ok in the winter, not so ok if you are having the real hot temps we are having. I'm trying to keep it more clean right now since we are hitting over 100 lately. :/

Most chickens will start to slow down on egg production around the age of two. Some of the heritage breeds..meaning they didn't come from a feed store, but from someone that breeds them, will go longer. The hens laying an egg a day..most of the time, usually are the ones that slow down around age 2.
