Good morning fellow chicken addicts!
Every time I have a chicken question that I do a search about online, this forum pops up, so I've been reading your info for awhile, and there's SO much great info on here! I finally realized that I really should just join myself!

My name is Stephanie Carlson, and I live in Berthoud, CO. I had a little farm quite a few years ago, with tons of different animals (including chickens), and life circumstances required me to get rid of the farm animals for awhile. Not sure how long it'd been since I had chickens, but it's probably been close to ten years. We have the space for chickens now, and I had been feeling the call to get them again the past few years, but we keep talking about moving to another state, so I kept telling myself to wait until we moved, so we didn't have more TO move. Well, we've been talking about moving for probably a good four years, and it still hasn't happened, so last year, I finally said "Screw it, I want my chickens!"

So last October (2020), I told my husband I wanted chickens for my birthday - best. birthday. EVER!!! I was, initially, trying to be good, thinking I didn't want to overwhelm my husband, so I bought six chicks from a feed store... After we got home, I asked my husband if he was surprised that I stuck to only six, and he said he was a little disappointed that I hadn't gotten more! Sooooo the next week I went back and got 11 more chicks! 🤣🤣🤣 There is SO much beautiful variety, it's so hard to stop buying chickens!

Soon, I remembered some of the breeds that had been on my bucket list to own back when I had chickens before, and quickly went down the rabbit hole. I got an incubator and starting trying my hand at hatching eggs. I LOVE the dual purpose birds especially (for some reason, I find fuzzy feet irresistible when it's on a chicken!), and my favorite breeds are English Orpingtons, Brahmas, and Cochins. Right now I have a chick pen with about 70 chicks in it (I may have gone a bit overboard, and I think about half that number is my max for chicks in the future, at least where we are at now), and it's my favorite part of the day to just go sit on a bucket in their pen and watch them play. Getting ready to start sorting through which ones I'll keep and which I'll sell off!

Thanks for all being here! Can't wait to get to know some of you, and learn from you! Have an eggtastic day!
