I've had chickens my entire life; I grew up with them and they've been my companions and friends. I love the little creatures and I always want to learn more about them. I currently have around 22 chickens, my oldest being an ameraucana who is 13 years old. I also have 6 younger chickens who are 6 months old, and 4 chicks who are 9 days old today. All of my younger birds have been hatched by the same hen and are mixed, they have some bantam and possibly some Rhode Island Red in them.
I also had the amazing and challenging experience of raising a chick by myself. My silver duckwing bantam (who got taken by a hawk a few months ago) hatched two chicks, but for some reason the second one died a day later. She was extremely distraught and rejected the first one. None of my other hens were broody and I couldn't find just a couple new chicks anywhere. So, I made the reasonable decision to raise her myself. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. She went everywhere with me; outside to feed and water everybody, to the grocery store, to a restaurant, she even came on a two day vacation to the coast with me. I love her to pieces. She's about to turn 7 months old. She surprisingly blended into my flock pretty easily, now she hangs out with the other birds most of the time, but she still asks to come inside with me often.

I'll stop now before I write an entire essay about my birds.
