I grew up with all types of animals. Chickens were part of the menagerie.
It’s been almost 30 years since I had chickens, so I had the brilliant idea that now was the perfect time to get a few. My husband and I do not have any kids, so our critters are our kids. We NEVER go into anything halfway, particularly when animal well being is at stake. We live in Southern Wisconsin,so our winters are cold. We just got four Orpington chicks. They will stay inside our heated basement with their heat lamp for as long as they need to. We already have a bigger cage to put them in, as they grow while still staying inside the basement. We have the coop set up inside our barn, so they will be safe from bad / cold weather, and predators. But when it’s nice outside, they will have a safe outside run. We also have five Nigerian Dwarf goats. All boys. We’re not interested in breeding, just having “farm animals “ as pets. We also have two little miniature Schnauzer girls that are inside. We love to spoil all of our critter kids rotten!
