SOOOO glad to be here!
We moved to our new house in December, and we now have room for chickens! I am so excited. So after a lot of research, we just picked up our first chicks today!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEEEE!!!!!!!
We got 10 chicks. We are building them a coop in the backyard. there will be a run, as well as they will get to free range in the backyard most of the time. But I wanted to chicken run, in case we are not home. I didnt want them free ranging when we were not home.
Ok, so this is what we got:
2 Easter Eggers
2 Cochins (one is a grey color, the other is spotted in black and gold)
1 Plymoth Rock
3 Silkies (2 white, 1 black)
2 Mystery Bantams (they were supposed to be silkies...but they are NOT! lol. they are light grey, furry feet, and VERY cute!)
My oldest daughter (7yo) has adopted one of the Easter Eggers and named her "Easter" and has decided that is HER chick. My youngest (3yo) has fallen in love w/ the grey Cochin, and named her "Chilli".
The other Egger is named "Jade" (we hope it encourages her to lay pretty blue or green eggs.
). The spotted Cochin is "Buffy", one of the white Silkies is "Snow". The rest are unnamed so far.
I cant WAIT to be able to post pictures for you guys!!! They are SO cute!!!!!!!!!
My only question so far is: What is your favorite inexpensive bedding for brood boxes?
We are using old fluffy towels right now, but wondering if I should be using something else....
