(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My first 4 girls were early pandemic purchases. We moved and adopted 5 more. We are currently raising them as well as 5 7week olds and 7 1week olds chicks
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 21!!! What have I gotten myself into!!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Oh dear. 4 OGs are RIR, barred rock Plymouth, easter egger, and lavender Orpington. 5 Adoptees are RIR, cuckoo maran, white leghorn, amerucuana and an unknown from tractor supply they tell me. 5 7-week old chicks are green queen, black Australorp, cream legbar, light brahma, and an easter egger. 7 1-week old chicks are 2 red stars, 2 true blue whitings, silver grey Dorking, amerucana and a surprise chick that is chipmunk in markings
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The excitement of my kids as they grow and the grounding aspect of being out and working for them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
SAHM chasing kids
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 2 cattle dogs and 2.5 acres. Looking forward to some Nigerian dwarf goats. We are surrounded by lots of deer, turkeys and crazy wildlife. We also adopted 5 guineas when we bought our new house.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
When I purchased my first 4 BYC was my go to for all research. I’m so appreciative of the help!!
