Hi, I’m Arica (like Erica but with an “A”)
I am a first time chicken mama. I have lurked here for years and wanted chickens since moving to NC 15 years ago, but mostly because of different HOAs I haven’t had the pleasure yet. However in 2020 we got 4 acres and started building a house with the promise of chickens. I homeschool my twins who are 10 and we decided to hatch chicks while DH works on the coop.
We have 8 chicks in the incubator, I got eggs from a local farmer and we got EE, Beilefelders, and Lav. Orpingtons, we also have 2 buff Orpingtons on order at the local feed store due to come in Thursday. We planned our hatch to try and come Tuesday (tomorrow) so they would be close to the same age. I just had one pip and they are cheeping and I’m so excited I cannot wait. The only person who might be more excited than me is my daughter and I really want to go wake her up so she can hear them cheep with me but it’s close to midnight and tomorrow will be an exciting day around here.
We all read constantly, knit when we find time, and love to camp in our camper. We also garden, and I have a passion for houseplants.
I joined so I can post and I read an article about lurking. I always intended to join just hadn’t done it yet.
The brooder is ready, everyone is so excited, wish me luck.

Hello @Aricawithtwins , welcome to BYC :frow
Good luck with the hatch; it is both exciting and challenging in my experience. Your children will learn a lot through your chicken-keeping adventure, just starting. I hope you all have more ups than downs; please don't be shy about asking for help and advice in the weeks to come as it can be quite a steep learning curve and emotional roller coaster at first.
