Hi,
After a busy hatching season, I have finally found some time to post and introduce myself to BYC. This is a very large website! It will take me weeks just to look around! I really like the features I see so far.

Anyway, I live in NW Arkansas, and have been raising the BBS variety of Ameraucana for several years. Besides the chickens I have two little house dogs, several kitties and a protector of my flock, a Great Pyrenees. She does a great job and because of her, my girls can come out every day and free range on the mountain. Oh, and I also have two beautiful grandkids!

My husband brought the first chicks home years ago and I must say I was very ******. Now, he is the one complaining daily! I'm sure he never realized raising chickens would involve so much work for him. Haha! Well, I got over my reservations and was intrigued by a chicken that layed a colored egg. I had never heard of such. To make a long story short, I eventually switched over to an all Ameraucana flock and I bet my husband never brings another animal home again!

I attended my first poultry show last fall and entered five of my birds. They did very well. My black pullet won AOSB and my black cockeral won Reserve. My blue cockeral won BOV. I was quite surprised. I enjoyed the show but have to admit the preparation for just five birds was very time consuming. I'm still unsure whether I will make this a habit or not.

Well, I have chicks to attend to and I'm anxious to start browsing, so that's all I have for now!
