looking for a new hobby that is relaxing and maybe make a little money on the side. Had a lot of anilmals growing up. Mostly small type animals. At one time we had so many animals my forth grade class came to our house for a field trip. Then I grew up and had a family and went to work, lol. Well, I am now at the point in life I want to relax a little and enjoy some of the things I had when I was a kid. Like chickens around the house and maybe a goat or two. Anyway looking for some advice on which chickens to raise, small amount, maybe a dozen or so to start with. Which ones are the most profitable and fun?

This
link is a little quiz to help you choose a breed.

You can keep the cost of coop, run, equipment, etc. down with a little research and ingenuity, but you aren't likely to come out ahead, I'm afraid -- at least not monetarily. If you can legally sell eggs where you live (I can't,) this might offset feed.

And this is an excellent link for all sorts of info on many breeds.

Plenty more info here on BYC about coops, etc.

welcome!!! profibility,......I don't think so.... LOL....by the time I make enough money to pay off the coop/run we built I'll have to start over, my hubby says, I hope they lay golden eggs!!! feed, housing, time spent, you won't make much, I had 12 hens and 1 roo, am down to 8 hens thanks to a weasel!! but I have 20 eggs in my bator. I think most of us here have them more to "enjoy" than to make any $$$

keep lurking and again

WELCOME!!!
