Hello!
We'll soon be chicken parents! My husband grew up with chicken and still had a couple when started dating 30 yrs ago. Now we've decided to get some. Last weekend we converted our old run down bunny run area into a chicken run and built a chicken coop. Still need to finish the run and buy some supplies before we get the chickens. We were thinking of just starting with two and we were considering Rhode Island Red and/or Barred Plymouth Rock chickens....probably around 8-12 wks old. Open to any suggestions or insight. Here are some photos of our coop and run:

Very cute coop, and yes, ventilation is very important, not only for the summer but for the winter. You will find out a lot of new things to any questions you may have, right here..on BYC. Go to your state thread. You will have a lot of folks from your area.
I love the leghorn too. I like having an EE or OE in my flock too..have to have some color in there, like, blue, or olive green. :) The sex links are another favorite of mine. An egg a day. I personally like the reds and browns best. My brown girl out there is the friendliest thing ever! My leghorn's are too. :)
