Hi there I've just signed up to the site! I've been googling questions and it keeps bringing me to this site! So thought I'd Join up!! I've had my chickens only for 3 months now or so and still in the learning process still... Lol I have a few different breeds and got a cock for my flock two wks ago!( in increase my flock of 10 hens) I have a brown leghorn that has been missing for 5 days and thought it was dead! Only to see it feeding in the pen early doors this morning!! Then gone again!!! Any ideas where she is? Or going? she is such a lovely bird and would hate for a fox to get her!! They are in a 3 meter by 12 meter pen in a wood which they fly out of and walk around during the day and return b4 I put them to bed!I have made them very very tame , thanks

Welcome! I joined BYC the very same way :)

I also have leghorns (2) and had this happen a couple times when they were younger. Whether the same bird or each of them disappearing on various occasions, I'm not sure, but I have thought a few times a leghorn was gone....and then she reappears in the coop.

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
Maybe your hen's got a secret nest somewhere?

Welcome to BYC.

Last night I came across this video about a hen that disappeared and showed up again.

Sumi's comment about a nest somewhere brought it to mind. No way of knowing if that is what your hen is up to but this is pretty neat.

Mine weren't broody. They just disappeared. Leghorns aren't really known for broodiness (sadly) I always hoped that was what she (they?) were up to! It really did happen several times, but its been awhile.

Hey steph and everyone else , sorry for late reply! I thought it would ave been killed by now but I saw it in the pen yesterday and followed it 6meters into the wood and to the base of a big oak ( right where I do my bonfires) and its sitting on 8 eggs( my other leghorn is sitting on 5 of its eggs and 2 brown hens eggs in the coop) thanks for all the info ! Will up load pics of nest and my ock this week! Thanks again
