Hi there! I am D and I am a newbie with chickens. I feel like I became a parent all over again because I am always worried about my flock! lol

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

It's so easy to fall head over heels with our birds and yes, worry about them! It's amazing how attached we get to our birds.

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, be sure to ask. Welcome to our community!

Hi and welcome! I just became a new mama to 11 chicks this week. I am a first time chicken owner and I worry about them a lot! I feel like I have a handle on this but I worry about them getting sick or not getting along or not being friendly. I have 3 Buff Orps, 3 Black Rocks and what was supposed to be 4 and ended up being 5 Barnevelders. How old are your chicks?

There are a few things that can keep your stress level down.
1. Do not bring adult birds into your flock. (Disease prevention & integration) if you must do so, quarantine new comers.
2. Build a large, walkin coop with excellent ventilation
3. Attach your coop to a large, covered, secure, predator resistant run
4. Always provide fresh water daily
5. Keep dry feed dry & toss wet or fermented feed daily
And keep oyster shell (for calcium) and grit (for digestion) available at all times.
6. Keep everything as clean as possible, especially your brooder.
7. Expose your chicks to dirt from the run by 2 weeks.
