Hi there, my names Bethany and I’ve been a member for a few years but don’t think I ever introduced myself. I haven’t really posted much but want to become more involved because there’s so much great information here and some really great people!
1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We had chickens growing up and I’ve had them since about a year after buying our house (10 years). I just recently decided to start hatching my own chicks and it’s so much fun!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now we have 4 left from a group we got about 5 years ago and I recently started hatching my own so we have 3 sets of chicks totaling 20.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Our older ones are a Welsummer roo, a guinea hen, a wheaten Ameraucana hen and a lemon cuckoo Orpington hen. The chicks are Ayam Cemanis, Bielefelders, Wheaten Ameraucanas, a Delaware and a Welsummer.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love having them pecking around the yard, eating ticks, they are so fun to watch, my kids love them and eggs! They’re just all around great to have!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Sports, animals, gardening, doing lots of stuff outdoors, etc.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my husband and 4 boys (9,7,3,1). We have 3 dogs, a cat, 3 bunnies and the chickens.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Every time I google anything chicken related the best info that pops up is from BYC!
