I'm Mary Ellen (mamamarye) and have been lurking around for about 8 months gathering information here via google searches and felt like I needed to join.
We just got our first chickens this year, on my birthday, but we have been dreaming about it since 2012. We got 6 Barred Rock chicks from Tractor Supply and I am anticipating our first eggs in the next month or two.
My husband and I have two boys, ages 7 and nearly 4 and we also have a cat and an English Setter that is surprisingly trust worthy with the chickens. We have about 0.75 of an acre and our neighbors probably think we are crazy. Our chickens prefer their front porch rocking chairs and they peek in the split level windows. We dream of having a true farm one day but lack funding and a business plan but we are working on both. In the meantime, he's an engineer and I'm a nurse.
Looking forward to continue learning from this community but now as a member rather than as a bystander.
