I’m Beth, I’m in Grove City, Ohio and I am starting a brand new adventure...backyard chicken mom!

My husband and I have never owned chickens before, but we’ve always wanted them...I found this group something like 15 years ago when I first started thinking about chickens! This year, while we’re working from home and quarantined, it seemed like an ideal time.

We have six chicks, because you have to buy six at a time in Ohio. We’d have liked 3 or 4, but we can work with this. We have two each of Red Cross, Golden Comet and Black Australop. Our favorite aspect of owning them so far is their sweet little peeps and cheeps...but we’ve had them less than 24 hours. ;)

Outside of chickens, we love our family and doing nerdy stuff....we have six grown kids (ages 19-25, and five of them girls!) and are expecting our first two grandchildren this year. We have four indoor cats, three dogs (Boston Terrier, Lab/Greyhound mix, Golden Retriever), two ferrets, a hedgehog and a fish (but he lives at my office. 😉). I like to knit, crochet, garden and video game. My husband like taking care of us all and geeking out on nerd stuff.

it’s pretty surreal, after all these years, to finally have a profile and a reason to be here. ^_^ I cant wait to learn!!

Hello, Beth, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm sure during your research you quickly learned that you need to have your coop and run built before the chicks arrive.
And the coop must be a minimum of 3.5 sq feet per bird with TONS of ventilation and the run must be a MINIMUM of 10 sq feet per bird with lots of perches and digging opportunities in it. More space than that is most definitely MUCH better.

Welcome to the flock at BYC I'm a newbie myself...hang on cause its going to be a fun ride. If you have any questions (I have) that need to be answered this is the place, this is an awesome place with the friendliest people.

Sounds like you're making the best of this bad situation -- raising chicks is a delightful way to spend time. And, eventually, you will have plenty of eggs.

I WAS selling eggs in town. Now, I'm getting upwards of 12 to 15 a day and I can't think of enough ways to cook them.

Welcome to this great community. We'll look forward to hearing about all your adventures!
