So here's a bit about me & mine:
We got our first chickens 1 week ago... and now have 3 mature hens & a young rooster.
I love "waddlers"! We tried ducks 4 years ago (our now-deceased dog killed them) - LOVED having them EXCEPT for the poo! We tried geese 2 years ago - fun to watch & interact with... until winter, when they got MEAN. I guiltily thought it was my fault for not feeding them correctly... until I got the right feed, which they loved, but they were still MEAN. So they went to a bird sanctuary. Now we're trying chickens... and so far, enjoying them quite a lot!
We live out in the country, in the middle of a bunch of alfalfa fields, and it just seems "right" to have critters. However, our property doesn't have much fencing, and we are on a "shoestring" budget, so we were unable to do much about it. Last week, however, I stumbled across a DEAL on Craigslist for chickens and coop for a price we could afford. (Praise God!)
So now we're putting aside our regular curriculm, and putting together a unit study on chickens (why fight it?)... and that's how I found this wonderful website!
Thanks for being here!
