Hi everyone one in chicken land. I'm a newbie to the backyard chicken game. I've got 5 pullets about ten or eleven weeks from laying. I got them locally and got them young so they can adjust to the space. I have a small coop which I put inside a 8'X8'X5' run. It's made from mostly recycled lumber, screen, and lattice. It's a little rough but the hens are happy and the smell isn't too bad. I'm not completely sure of the breeds but I'm supposed to have two Rhode Island Reds and three Easter Eggers!
Anyway, glad to be here and hope to get some info on my breeds!:P

I'm adding the rest of the lattice Monday! A few hanging plants and presto!

Generally chickens require 4-5 sg.feet per bird inside the coop not counting roosts and nest boxes. In the outdoor run they need 10 sq.feet per bird. A top on the run can provide some shade, protection from rain/snow, keep your flock from flying away and stop climbing or flying predators from dropping in for dinner. If you have any serious predators, lattice will not keep them out,

Please check the predator and coop sections for ways to keep your flock safe. Everything loves chickens from family pets, to wandering fox, raccoon, coyotes, skunks etc.
