(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm relatively new to chickens. I live with my boyfriend's family and the chickens belong to his mother. I started getting involved when my two chicks were born last year (Baby and Peepsy) and we got a new flock about 5 months ago and ever since I've been very involved with the chickens. However, I'm really ignorant about how to take proper care of them and I'm hoping to get a lot of tips to help me keep my girls as healthy as possible.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have 9 chickens right now, last week we sadly lost our two oldest ones, one of them being our roo. We have Baby, Peepsy, Janine, Melody, Ingelore, Lola, Esme, Hildegard, and Debby.

(3) What breeds do you have?

That's maybe one of my first questions, I don't know all of their breeds! My mother in law bought them and I guess she didn't find it important to check the breed. I know for a fact that:
Janine: Red Star
Debby: Polish
Ingelore: Rock Chicken (There's so many kinds and to me they all look the same whoops)
The other six are a mystery to me, I'll have to report back with pictures.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I was already googling tips for chicken care and the website popped up and eventually I had too many questions and decided to just make an account!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I like roller skating, yoga, and gardening.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm an American but I live in Germany with my boyfriend's family so I'm fluent in both English and German. I have three cats but one of them is my special boy, Gizmo. I'm a dental assistant in training and will get my certification in 2019!

:welcome

What part of Germany are you in? I was lucky enough to travel to Munich a few years ago and loved it!

You can post photos of the unknown birds here:What Breed Or Gender is This? The members that hang out there are very good at identifying breeds.

Best of luck getting your certificate and thanks for joining us!

I live in NRW, about an hour from Cologne. I went to Munich in 2014 but haven't been back since... Not too much of a beer drinking lol.

If I can get close enough to my girls I'll make sure to send pictures there. Thanks!

Lol, we were there in Jan/Feb...far away from Oktoberfest time! It was a great trip, you live in a beautiful country.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

It is funny how chickens grow on you!

One thing to remember is that rules in other countries changes what you can get for medicine for chickens. Make sure you put the country that you live in in the post to avoid confusion

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're thrilled you've decided to join us:ya

So sorry for your lost birds:hugs

I spent a few years in the Eifel (Bitburg/Spangdahlem area) and enjoyed my vacations in Idar Oberstein and munich. It's a beautiful place.
