We started our backyard bird raising this spring with 3 chicks and 2 ducks! Here are some pictures when they were little. They have been raised together. They share a coop, the ducks area is in the bottom and the hens are upstairs with their nesting spots. We open range our birds and they love our fenced yard. They can go over the fence but like to stay in it so far. At night we get them in the coop & release them in the am. They are so much fun! We live in the city with less than an acre. Our family is BIG with pets! We have an 8 year old golden male Rusty who LOVES the birds. He is a caretaker of them. Next is Roxy an American Eskimo who protects everyone at our house. Captain is our hunter Cat who likes outside and keeps good care of our ladies & gents. Two more cats Tubby & Gandolf who tolerate them. Lastly two ferrets Bear & Tina-Trex, who are not allowed near our birds. Now for the humans, Jeremy my husband who flies Helicopters, adventures in nature & enjoys Mt biking, skateboarding, Landcruiser building and photography in his free time. I’m Amie the mom and glue of the family. I love living things, adventuring in the great outdoors, creative activities like art and people. I work at our local ski/snowboard resort Powder Mountain. Our oldest child is Taylor, he is enjoying his first year in college, he is an avid gamer, loves history and the outdoors. Sequoia is in High School working hard to keep a 4.0! She loves drawing, painting & photography. She enjoys all media’s of art. She loves to go outdoors with her friends. Ziegen is in Jr High. He loves learning German, hunting and animals. It was his idea and desire to have not only chickens but ducks. He bought all the birds with his Birthday funds this year.
We love love having them, and are so excited to join this resourceful group!

We know we have a Campbell male duck but are not sure what type the other duck is? I have no idea if it’s male or female. The ducks stay together like a pair. The Campbel is the smaller of the ducks. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Hi, Amie, welcome to BYC. Hopefully you have a duck and a drake. If both are drakes, problems may arise if they try breeding the chicken hens. Drakes have penises = roosters do not. Drakes breeding chicken hens can cause injury or even death.
