I haven't kept chickens for years, although I grew up adjacent to my grandfather's farm where he always had chickens. Black plymouth rocks IIRC. My grandmother on my other side also raised chickens and sold eggs to a local store.
So, I've had chickens, but its been so long, I'm basically back new to the whole thing. My wife and I are retired and moved out of town to where we have the space to raise them.
We're looking forward to having them just to have them, and for egg production. Last year was the first time for us to have an actual garden, and we're looking at adding our first livestock this year.
My wife Colleen has retired from public school administration. I worked for a public utility in a chemistry group where I mainly worked with water treatment and environmental issues at our nuclear plants. As noted, we've since retired and live in the country in the piedmont of North Carolina with a hyperactive golden retriever and our country gentleman, an 11 yo old english lab.
