(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm new to chickens, however my husband grew up having chickens. We recently decided to start a flock and purchased some chicks and ducklings.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 9 chicks and 2 ducklings
(3) What breeds do you have?
black australorp
golden comet
gold laced wyandotte
rhode island red
americana (easter egger)
pekin ducks
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We are hoping to teach the kids some responsibilities and how to raise and produce our own food and of course having fresh eggs
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like crafting and cooking
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live in Western PA. My husband and I have been married for almost 13 years and together 21. We have a 7 year old daughter and a 4 year old son. We have a 9 year old Maine Coon mix named Lola.. I am currently a SAHM. Previously I spent the majority of my career as a chemical analyst in various fields.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC as any research on how to care for our new flock had many results come up from the experienced and knowledgeable members in this group.
