(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes and no, my youngest son has been taking poultry to the county fair for 4H for the last two years, but hasn't had an opportunity to really get into it. Now we own our own farm and have purchased hens for lain eggs and breeding.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Right now we have 14 hens in the barn at my SIL and are frantically attempting to finish our coop. 40 in the incubator, first set is on day 20! I'm a mess!
(3) What breeds do you have? BRs, RIRs, Americaunas, and BOs
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? We have been visiting here for about 2 months planning our chicken coop and learning as much as we can about incubating, care and homes for chickens
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Working on the new little farm, we bought in September. I want to clear a place for the garden, talk the hubby into letting the hens free range at times. He is even talking like he may fence in the back 1.5 acres and get some goats!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have two boys in 4H, oldest takes lambs to the fair and youngest takes poultry. We have been renting for the last 2 1/2 years and have let them have animals inthe hopes that we would soon have a small place of our own to raise the animals. We purchased 5 acres in Sept and are now preparing for the arrival of hens, roos and lambs. Also contemplating dogs, goats and ponies....not quit sure how much this little place can handle. I have been unemployed and going to school full time since last may. I have a 3 year old daughter that "helps" me around the house. Decided to incubate about 3 weeks ago and am waiting on my first hatching very impatiently!!!
