I joined a few days ago and just now noticed the introduction page...oops! I've been posting a bit so I'm sure a few people have seen me around before now. Anyways I'm Erin. I'm 27yrs old, married for 7yrs, have 2 little girls and I live in Texas. My furry friends are 2 dogs, a basset hound named Bubba, and a lhasapoo named Maggie. I have 2 goats, a nubian mix named Rusty, and a pygmy named Elvis. My girls recently got 2 bunnies Chloe and Carlie. Then there are the feathered friends, 2 rhode island reds Gloria and Rita), 2 black austrolops that need names, a mixed bantam pair (Roxy and Drake), 7 assorted bantam chicks in the brooter, and 3 pharo quail.

And btw I am already addicted to this forum!!

Hey, I'm in Conroe, Texas. Welcome to the BYC where you're gonna learn just how crazy chicken lovers are! Our chickens are not just chickens but are part of the family just as much as the dog, the cat, and the horse. Last night I did a spot check on my coop about 10pm to find the cats curled up and sleeping right next to the chickenwired coop. I mean huddled up to the cat for warmth was my Americauna chicks(6wks old). I noticed how my cats just lay and watch the hens during the day as the free range eating goes on. I have even had the chickens go over and eat dry catfood out of a bowl where the cats were also eating. The cats will back away if more than one chicken comes up at a time. Don't get me wrong here, I know they have to be watched every second they are together but I think that we have had so many baby animals come and go over the past year and a half that the cats don't even blink at the sight of a new creature joining our family. Glad to have a fellow Texas join the blog. Sharon

Hi Sharon! I think Conroe is pretty close to me....really close actually...I think. I'm 20min east of Beaumont between Maruiceville and Vidor. I grew up on a farm and it's always been my dream to raise my girls the same way. I used to free range all my chickens but then we got a new puppy last summer and I can't get her to stop chasing and hurting them. She's been around them her whole life and suddenly she thinks they are chew toys.
