Am new here and excited to meet you all. Well I''ve been with my birds for over 5 years though as pets and recently decided I wanted to start a full time egg production. Your topics and comments keeps me coming back. Thanks a lot.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. If you want sheer egg production, you need to go with either White Leghorns (for white eggs) or Sex Links (for brown eggs). These are the hens used by commercial laying houses for a reason; they consistently churn out over 300 eggs per year per bird. Sex Links are calmer than White Leghorns, and although they are marketed under a lot of different labels, there are really only two basic varieties, Black and Red Sex Links. I have had both the Blacks and Reds, and personally prefer the Black Sex Links as they have been friendlier and laid slightly better in really cold winter weather than my Red Sex Links, but both varieties are egg laying machines. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your egg production off and running.
