I wanted chickens for a few years before I took the plunge, as well. There are a lot of helpful resources on this site and in several books on the subject. Please explore the learning center articles, there's a lot of helpful info there.

Feel free to ask questions and participate in the forums. Learn as much as you can about raising your own flock, make your mind up about what you want and expect, and if it fits, then go for it. Raising your own chickens is so exciting and fun.
