Hi everyone! Complete just born newbie here, so I am going to follow the sample template to help my introduction juices flow!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? absolutely just born newbie!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? no chickens yet, but lots of cats, dogs, bats, deer, wild turkey, raccoons and opossum in our yard!

(3) What breeds do you have? No idea what breeds to get, but hoping to learn!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Pinterest

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Cat, dog & wild animal rescue; sustainability; recycling; jewelry making and motorcycling!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a true city person who is married to a disabled Navy Seal with severe PTSD. I own a house in the middle of nowhere! (New Egypt, NJ) and am in the process of giving up my apartment in Perth Amboy, NJ (city right across from Staten Island). We have absolutely no experience with any type of farm animal! However, we both have years of experience handling cats, dogs and wild animals. Our household consists of both of us and 4 cats & a dog, all rescued and the dog, formerly abused bait dog. My husband and I are looking forward to learning a new life. My husband loves animals and wants to have chickens, goats and lots of veggies. This will also help provide him with a positive activity in which his work will directly affect our household nutritionally. It will also require that he takes care of something living - he feels that this will help him stay away from the dark recesses of his mind. Me...on the other hand would prefer to just play with the animals and eat the veggies. I work fulltime as a labor contract negotiator and most days I come home brain fried! I am looking forward to the peace and calmness that animals provide.

Sincerely ~harley587

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a very good and thorough introduction.) Tell your husband I said, "thank you" for his years of service for our country. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting chickens.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I hope you can get some chickens soon! Good luck with all your critters! We have lots of wild animals around here too. In fact, we had a visit from a bear just the other day!

Please thank your husband for his service to our country! Again, welcome to BYC!

My husband, Al, says "you're welcome" to everyone, and we both very excited to get our first chickens. I've started my research on which chickens would be the best for us. I am very suprised to see how many different kinds of chickens exist!
