I have acquired some hens that need some help! They are either molting (my best guess) or the roosters and other hens are doing a number on their feathers. I have never had such a ragged looking bunch. I have some wild game bird crumbles that I bought for turkeys. Would it be okay to give them some of this to increase their protein intake? It has a higher protein content than the lay pellets.

I was just going to ask about the "game bird" feed. I've asked before and not had any answers.

I think I'll wait until it gets a little cooler here, though.

Thanks!!

It's already cooler here. Must be stopping at the Texas/Arkansas border.
I'm going to gamebird feed this week because my birds are molting and need a little help in the feather dept.

I've been feeding a mixture of 22% layer feed and rolled milo (9%). It cuts my costs a little bit and I figure that the way I mix it, my chickens are getting 16% plus on the protein.

When cooler weather comes, I'll include cracked corn.

just my 2 pesos worth,
