Hi everyone! I just got my first 16 chicks- 11 eggers and 5 meat , on March 25. I also just recently moved to northern Ontario 4 months ago and have absolutely ZERO friends up here, and with this self- isolation I feel lonelier than ever! I’ve loved looking at care posts and have learned a LOT! I love lurking here and would love to start chatting with other chicken folk (as hubby isn’t quite as into chicken talk as I am!). I also have a 4- year old son , so I’m not working, and that’s just compounding the feelings of isolation. I don’t meant to be a downer, I’m just really loving this community and hoping to chat with some like-minded people. I love your community and I’m so happy to have found you! Happy Monday everyone!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. My son is 34 and lives several states away. I've lived alone most of my life but, thankfully BYC is making it much more bearable. I find sheltering in place is doable because it combines my two best activities - love for BYC and the many friends I've made around the globe, and daily napping.

I am 72. Between both of them I get to exercise my brain and social vocabulary as well as enjoy necessary sleep. It's not easy to sleep with all the covid news and disaster everywhere you look or listen. But, I especially like to check into BYC right before I hit the hay. I always can find uplifting stories or comments on most threads I visit. Sometimes the treat of a funny video or parody song makes it even better.

Hope you will find BYC to be as comforting to isolated folks as it is instructional to those who require advice on chickens, ducks, geese and healthier life styles.

Welcome!
If you don't mind a fowl sense of humor, I'm here. :D
Raised 6 children and homeschooled them, now just have 78 chickens, 3 rabbits, 2 cows, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 husband. :celebrate

Which is WAY better than when my eldest son had 34 snakes in his bedroom and 1 of his little sisters left the top off the aquarium and let the snakes out!

Thank you SO much! This is so comforting! I spend a lot of time these days with my son/ chickies, as my husband works full time and has friends around here. I’m a little resentful , but at the same time I like the time by myself when our son is asleep and o can sit in my brooder room. I gave them their first smashed hard boiled egg... holy smokes the pandemonium! Adorable! Anyways, thanks for your reply, I hardly ever get to have a nap but the next time I do I’ll thank my heavenly stars!

Honestly "better you than me." Just the thought of those snakes would have killed me. But of course I would have told a son (I do have one) that the snakes would have been over my dead body. Luckily the only obsession he had was with computers, fortunately it is very lucrative for him.

Haha well I have both a “fowl” sense of humour and sometimes a mouth too! I have got to take my hat off to you- having my son home because of this virus has been trying, but I admit I’m not always the most hands- on mom. I’m learning though and coming up with activities to kee him busy.
okay so you have 78 chickens?! And two cows?? Man I’m trying to convince the husband that goats would be a good addition, haha! It’s not going well, but I also don’t give up!
I’m very glad to be part of this community and will continue to read
