heya, my name is Lena (or Lenka) . i don't currently have chickens, but will most likely be getting some in a couple of weeks. I used to have chickens a long time ago and can't wait to have them again! I'm probably getting mine from a hatchery, but theres a possibility of getting some from a local guy, depending on whether or not I really want a straight run or not... (and if he has the ones I want) My favorites are silkies, I used to have the best guy every, a red silkie named Gizmo, he was my baby! I probably won't be getting a rooster (unless straight run..) but i just cant wait to get chickens again!!

Hi Lena! Welcome! I'm a newbie too, although I'm also new to chickens, while it sounds like you're an old pro. If you decide to go with a hatchery, we just had good luck with McMurray and My Pet Chicken (Meyer). Good luck!

Just yesterday I was surfing the Buy,sell,trade forum and saw several nice silkies offered -you may want to look there - these were higher quality than hatchery birds and there were some blues, etc.

If I do go through a hatchery, I will most likely go with mcmurray, and unfortunately not be getting silkies- they don't have many available atm. If I go with the local guy, mu chances for getting silkies is greatly improved.. :) (but not getting as many hens, since I don't think he really seves his chicks..

I've always had good luck with McMurray. You can also post in your state's thread in the link below - maybe a local can hook you up with some silkes! Good luck & have fun!
