Well it depends on your goals. I pick and choose everything I do to fit the needs of my family and size of environment. I work a compost pile. I raise chickens for eggs. I make my own laundry soap. Next spring I will trying my hand at some gardening. There are a lot of self sufficiency threads you can read and meet great people who can offer lots of tips.
