hello everyone I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a new proud chicken owner of two baby chicks. I received them after my father gave them to my three-year-old daughter as a gift after she came out of the hospital. after much consideration I decided to keep the babies in hopes that in the future they would lay me some free eggs. My daughter is a complete animal lover and has a big soft spot in her heart for animals of any kind. she automatically fell in love with the chickens and I didn't have much of a choice. we started off with a black sex link & a leghorn, We named the black sex link Cluckers or Clucks for short.

Clucks

And we named the leghorn Peepers or Peeps for short.

Peeps

Peeps ended up passing away 3 days later of unknown reasons. it was so heartbreaking that I cried. I replaced her with a new Amerecauna breed chick that we named Pepper.

Pepper

Clucks & Pepper have bonded amazingly. Clucks has a sweet personality. she is very spoiled and affectionate towards me. She follows me around wherever I go. Pepper is sweet too but she's a little more aloof and skittish when I pick her up. Never In a thousand years would I ever think that I would love chickens as much as I have. their own personalities and affectionate ways have really surprised me, I'm hooked!

Anywho, I reside in Phoenix, Arizona & I hope to educate myself more in this subject of chicken raising & harvesting eggs. thank you for reading.

Hello and Welcome to Backyard Chickens. Sorry about your loss. If you want to find other chicken folks near you, go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum.

Then locate and post on your state thread. They would be your best guide for getting your chicks through the very hot, dry weather.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I'm sorry about the loss of Peepers. It's always sad to lose one of our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Black Sex Links are my favorites as they are friendly and hardy, egg laying machine. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with Clucks and Pepper.
