I am still in the process of figuring out the best way to feed my flock. I have decided to lower the protein, etc to prevent angelwing. What I was wondering: Does anyone reccomend one feeding method over another? Holderread(Storey's Guide) Recommends 18-20% for the first two weeks, 2 to 7 weeks 16-18% Protein, 7-20 weeks 15-16% Protein.

Metzer recommends 0-2weeks 21% Protein, 3-9weeks 17.5% Protein, and 9 weeks to first egg 14.5% Protein.

Does anyone reccomend one method over another? Also, what protein is most commonly used in laying age birds? Thanks!

I recall 18% for layers.

And I realized when I was swimming through all these numbers the first time, that when I feed treats - peas, lettuce, mealworms - and when the ducks forage for their own dandelions, chickweed, slugs, and worms, there go the percentages, out the window.

So I relaxed a little, aim to keep their boughten feed at the optimal percentage, and hope that their diet will average out to the right protein amounts. Their condition and behavior are some of the best indicators.
