Holderread's delivered!

I got my duckling shipment from Holderread's today, 10 assorted ducklings, plus 2! One didn't survive shipping but the rest are healthy and lively as all get out. For coming over 3000 miles, that's really good. I love the assortments, it's always a surprise. I know I have 3 black runners and what look like 2 black swedish (but holderreads doesn't have swedish listed?) and then 6 that look like Saxonys to me. A couple have the runner bearing but they're bigger than the black runners so I don't know. Time will tell and that's half the fun! Pardon the pictures, all I have to take them with is my cell phone.

Holderread doesn't raise Swedish, but Dutch Hookbills come in black bibbed. That would be some really nice luck if you got Hookbills,

Look on the underside of the lid. Often, the breeds are listed there.

They don't list the breed in the assortments. I ordered 5 assorted and no breeds were listed. I got 1 Rouen 3 unknown and 2 runners. I also ordered 3 WH and 2 mini silver appleyards. They all survived shipping. They are 3 weeks old now. 3 of them died, 2 in an accident and 1 today. I don't know what was wrong with the one that died today. I still have both Mini silvers and 2 WH. 2 of the unknown ducklings died and 1 WH. I was very pleased with the ducklings I got. I would have ordered more this year, but it is too late. I did order 30 from Sand Hill Preservation Society though. 25 egg layers and 5 Blue Swedish.

I'm going to have to go out and check out my little guys again, I didn't notice a difference in the bill but from what I've seen as ducklings, the difference isn't that great. It'd be neat if they were!

How are you liking the mini silvers? I'd love to see pics of them. sorry about the losses.

They are the cutest of all the ducklings. I will try to get pictures later. They are starting to get feathers already, the others have no feathers. One of them is about 1/2 the size of the other. I am not sure why. Maybe it is a girl and the other is a boy? I find it funny that WH and Mini silver appleyards have the same coloring. People will think we have mini WH.
