Hole diggers!

So is this behavior symbolic of pending first eggs? I caught these two digging these holes just now.. they looked at me like they just got caught.. they are about 4.5 months old

. As well as dust bathe. Squatting is an indication of imminent egg laying. My girls squatted on average around 10 days before laying. GC

Most chickens will dig in the dirt to take dust baths. It's not only a sign of egg laying, but most will do it in order to find somewhere cool to rest. Depending on your climate or temperature of the coop, they might be overheating and trying to escape the heat!
 
Dust bath and the first time you see them bathing can be frightening, my 5yr old son came running in the house cryinbg his chicken was having a seizure

They're combs & wattles will become very red and they'll squat weeks before they start laying.
