About once a week, one of my barred rock hens will lay an egg that has a hole in it. I don't believe she has pecked it, rather it looks as if the hole hasn't quite closed. The edges are raised as if it was broken off. The membrane is never breached. If anyone has answers, please help! Thank you!

Sounds like a defect in her egg laying equipment to me. If it were a one time thing, I'd say it's just a glitch.

Here's hoping others will chime in with more help for you.

Do you still have the egg? It would help to see a picture of what you're describing.

I don't still have the egg, used it in sugar cookies this morning!

The next time I get one, I'll post the pick. Thanks for your responses!

One of mine is doing this also. Including pic of egg. She'll thins (feathers) toward hole.
