I noticed when I picked up my ducklings that a few have holes in their feet

Like you can see the grass under them. Is this normal? i dont think ive ever had this happen. And then their feet are... shedding? like a snake skin. I keep them hydrated enough, they have acess to waer 24/7. What up with this?

Are they free range? Sometimes mine would get little holes poked through their feet if they were out a lot. Are they in a pen, or outside?

Is their bedding pine? Or anything that has oils like a different wood perhaps?

They are only about a week old, they have newspaper in the cage since they are inside at night but during the day they are in our back yard - the grass is soft since we have prairie sod. Ill try and get some picturres tonight

Did you hatch them out at your place or did you buy them from someone? Some people ID clutches with punching hole(s) in the toe webs. Could these be intentional ID marks?

I hatch out all my ducklings. Surprisingly - I have never paid for a bird in my life. All ducks that I have ever had were rescues or hatched out here.
