I have three Narragansett turkeys. A gobbler and two hens. The hens are constantly digging in the pen. They have dug a couple large holes and appear to be eating the dirt. Any thoughts?

You might be correct about them needing grit but they may also be digging for food such as larva or earthworms.I have seen them dust but not in these spots. You could probably hide a basketball in one of the holes. I will see them digging and pecking away. I don't have any grit out for them and maybe that is why. I let them out most evenings after work and they wonder around the barn and down in the woods. I'm getting some grit today to put in with them and see if that helps.
