We were making plans to move to central NY last fall/winter/spring. Then decided to stay put and I just travel back and forth for work.
While I'm up here this time, I found a few houses that I actually like.
I emailed the town zoning in one area as I couldn't find info.

I was told, yes, I'd be allowed to have them, after I make my property a farm. The house was on 3.6 acres and the farm must have at least 3 acres.
There is a bunch of paperwork and zoning meetings.
$250 fee to start and then a $300-6000 fee for engineering review.

I keep telling myself it is because you'd be creating an actual farm, it couldn't be the high end for just a duck house LOL

Takes some time and fees (plus surveys, so more money) so there is no way to do it before buying a property.
But the kitchen in that house... it is the only one in a house I've seen for sale that I actually like as much/more than my own!

Gracious! Lovely, lovely kitchen!

We are looking at adding a feature to our house - a masonry stove - and that would involve engineering, permits, etc. Even for the wood stove we needed a permit and inspection. While I am fine with the concept of assuring safety, some small minded people use their positions to make life unnecessarily difficult for others. That's the nightmare I have, anyway.

I like that you are getting closer to us. Even if we never get to visit.

Oh man, what I wouldn't give for a kitchen like that! Or a house like that, for that matter. Our townhome is teeny tiny, and I don't think a home like that is ever gonna be within my reach. :/
